History
David Black Associates, Inc. was established in 1986 to provide structural engineering consulting services in the tri-state area. The establishment of this firm was the culmination of many years of diversified experience in design and construction by David Black, P.E. As owner and principal engineer of the firm, his design and construction experience includes demonstrated expertise in the evaluation, design, inspection and construction of commercial, industrial and institutional buildings and special structures. We are currently licensed and active in eight states. Our professional staff includes structural engineers, field technicians, and administrative personnel.
Our expertise with regard to existing buildings is well known throughout the region. This experience and knowledge of the building construction has created a demand for our special investigation, expert witness, and design services for insurance companies, attorneys, contractors and other architects and engineers. We have been very active in many existing buildings over the years in the Chambersburg and surrounding areas in providing cost effective solutions to restore these structures to play an active role again.

David Black's experience began in the early 1970s when he worked for a prestigious New York engineering firm as project engineer on the World Trade Center in New York City. During this time he also worked on arts and entertainment projects such as the Living History Center for the Philadelphia Bicentennial and the Studio Theatre in the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Experience with these projects provided the foundation for the services being offered to our clients in the area. We have also worked extensively with many of the local and regional downtown properties to enable their reuse with reasonable modifications for code compliance.
